More Reason To Do It Naturally

A Toronto broadcaster has been convicted of breaching the Aeronautics Act and apparently bitch-slapping another passenger when her London-to-Toronto flight was diverted to St. John’s for a medical emergency.

The woman blamed the tarmac meltdown on “menopausal exhaustion”.

Taking just a teeny bit of responsibility for her behavior, the broadcaster and her lawyer claimed that she had been awake for 30 hours, had consumed two small bottles of wine while en route across the Atlantic, had taken a sleeping pill, and was also going through Hormone Replacement Therapy (on the plane?). When they landed in St. John’s instead of Toronto, it was all too much for her. She lost it, but according to her, with good reason.

Now, without venturing into the “too much information” department, I have happily gone through menopause. When I’m exhausted, bitchy, or irritable, I tend to curl up and go to sleep. I’ve consumed two small bottles of wine between Edmonton and Toronto and never felt the need to get into it with flight attendants or fellow passengers. The only difference between this particular woman and I is that she’s chosen that crazy chemical route that so many women feel they have to follow: Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Maybe that’s the key here: Maybe the fake hormones do make you a bit crazy. Maybe if you’re on the edge and have a short fuse to begin with, the pills just make it worse. I say drop the HRT nonsense, embrace the process naturally, and stop blaming everybody and everything else for your troubles. Oh, and get some sleep. Sleep deprivation makes everybody bitchy, regardless of gender.

In fairness, the woman in question DID say that she would spend each day from now on trying to be a better person. It’s just a shame that it took an international incident to make her realize that was what she needed to do.
