Oh, That’s More Like It
The other night whilst channel-hopping, I stumbled upon a rather lengthy televised concert by Def Leppard on the CBC.
On the CBC. At ten o’clock in the evening. Pre-empting The National, for crying out loud. How Un-Canadian, I thought.
Turns out that all the hoo-ha was a party to celebrate the season home opener for the Vancouver Canucks hockey team. the Def performance was followed by a ceremony to honour a fallen player. Luc Bourdon died far too young in a motorcycle crash last summer, an apparently promising talent snuffed out in a heartbeat. While tribute was being paid and his jersey presented to his family, I could have sworn that I heard some in the crowd booing. “That seems wrong”, I thought. “Why would they boo a player who obviously is no longer with us?” With this in mind, I jumped onto Ye Olde Internet to read further about the man and his story.
Turns out the crowd was chanting “Luc”.
So glad I solved that mystery.
