More Randomness

Southern Ontario was due to get the remnants of Ike last night. Heavy rain and wind warnings lingered throughout the day. But in typical Southern Ontario fashion, it was all for naught.

We got wind (the atmospheric kind, not the other) that came from just the right direction to rattle the attic all night, but the rain was nothing out of the ordinary. No floods, no plagues of locusts, Nuthin’. I feel strangely cheated.

Speaking of Ike, if you got an official, mandatory evacuation warning that told you that you faced almost certain death if you didn’t clear out, would you not leave? I’m thinking that all those idiots who chose to ride out the storm down Galveston way, only to be plucked from their rooftops by helicopter should be given a bill for the ride.

Still on the Ike front, gasoline prices jumped twice in these parts over the weekend. Presently we are paying $138.2 per litre, which works out to darn close to $6.25 a gallon in old money. I know that other parts of the country have it even worse.

The weekend price spikes were based on nothing more than speculation about Ike and the damage he might cause, and what that might due to production. Shouldn’t speculation like that be right up there in the Illegal Department alongside insider trading?
