Just When You Thought They Couldn’t Suck Any More
A week or so ago, an underground hydro vault that supplied power to an apartment building in Toronto blew up.
On what was an otherwise quiet Sunday morning, several hundred people had the crap scared out of them as black smoke swirled up from the underground location, into the air, and through their apartments. The blast blew out windows in surrounding buildings, and sent tenants scurrying into the street.
As the day wore on, the story got worse. Tenants first thought they would be out of their homes for a couple of hours. That stretched to a couple of days, and before Monday morning rolled around, they were told that they would be homeless for a month, as building inspectors took a close look at the integrity of the structure and wondered aloud about what the hell could have happened.
Through the week that followed, security patrolled the building as plans were put into place for tenants to go in, inspect their premises and collect their belongings. As people filed back to see what was what, close to a dozen households were found to be burgled.
The thieves knew what they were looking for, and somehow managed to run through the security cordon with laptops, Nintendo DS game systems and various other electronics. As accusations flew about shoddy protection, a 13-year-old, 16-year-old and 17-year-old were charged.
Nice going, parents.
